Ceramic veneers are thin (thickness varying from 0.4 to 1.5 mm) porcelain casings-overlays, used for the reconstruction of small mechanical front tooth damage, as a result of injury, cracks, fractures, breaks, grinding and discolouration from medications or other causes. These can change the shape and color of the teeth in patients with small defects. Porcelain veneers are resistant to staining and color change. However, as with any porcelain they may crack or be damaged from accidents or impacts.
Composite veneers are a cheaper alternative to porcelain veneers and allow a change in the shape and color of teeth in patients with small defects and crown damage, while retaining the more natural tooth structure. Composite veneers are susceptible to discoloration, are less durable and need to be replaced more often. To ensure the highest possible cosmetic effect and life expectancy of veneers, one of the most important factors to consider is to use high quality composites. It is best to use more expensive, high esthetic composites ie. Enamel (MicerDent Italy).
